Reading table

Some very intricate details indicate that the “Gebrüder Thonet” wanted to show with this very special table the art of wood bending. The top shows pattern of a parquet floor “en miniature”. The inner pattern of the table top is identical to the design No XIII on the parquet flooring broadsheet of the company "Gebrüder Thonet" published in 1855.

It is possible that this table is one of the two that had been exhibited on the 1855 fair in Paris where the company showed "two tables with the top ornamented with brass inlays".
